The next section of Reeses, which can be found at www.fanfiction.net/~binksbabe2001

We headed aft, following in the footsteps of the NID pilot. As we quickly passed through the storage compartment where the Jaffa were being held, Vinnet ignored their cold stares like a tiger ignores small insects. Then we stepped into a disaster zone that was supposed to be a neat, organized engine room. Control circuits were pulled out of the engines and key storage crystals lay all over the floor, the different colors reminding me of McDonald’s playground. One of the NID guys saw us and frowned.
Vinnet looked up from the abstract patterns of the crystals on the floor. “It appears as though you need great assistance in repairing the engine.”
“No, I think we’ve got it,” replied the pilot from earlier. “We’ll be done soon, so you can go back up.”
In response, Vinnet picked up the multi-colored storage crystals and began to place them back in the circuits where they belonged and probably had been before the first man had left the bridge to “fix” the hyperdrive.
He joined us at the control circuit, saying, “You’re not putting them back in the right configuration to give us the speed we need. Let me do it.” His stern voice was like to that of a parent explaining to child why they couldn’t play in the street.
My symbiote looked at him skeptically. “And how is it that your judgment on such a matter is higher than my own? After all, I have had experience repairing hyperdrives so that they work at ninety-four percent efficiency. The way these were configured, the energy bypassed the power buffers so that the engines would overload.” A hint of a smile played across my face, the most expression Vinnet would ever show. “Of course you wouldn’t have wanted anything to happen to this ship while I was on it, now would you?”
